Everything you need to know about Pathé
The Amsterdam City Theater is designed by the famous architect Jan Wils. The City Theater is one of the last examples in Amsterdam of the New Building. The New Building is a collective term for different styles and and innovations within architecture
In 1943, the building fell into complete disrepair and only a few years later the original facade was completely removed. It was not until 2007 that the building, especially the facade, was restored back to the original.
The original drawings by Jan Wils, combined with photos and video footage of the 1935 construction process, made it possible to make this reconstruction.
Much attention was paid to the appearance at night during the reconstruction. Vertical lights and the large neon letters were used to beautifully brighten the square and nightlife area. The unique construction really gives this building its own identity, which is also reflected in the film selection. Apart from the well-known film titles, City also offers a wide range of Arthouse films
