Nightlife in Amsterdam: the complete night-out guide

Amsterdam has one of the best nightlife scenes in Europe. But with more than 300 venues, you don't always know where to start. In this guide: the best areas, clubs by music style, what it costs and the nights when it all happens.

Leidseplein is the classic nightlife centre: big clubs, cafés and a mix of tourists and locals. Rembrandtplein is more compact and easy for bar hopping. Amsterdam Noord is the city's underground corner, and around Zeedijk and the Red Light District you'll find small bars and cafés that stay open deep into the night.

From techno in the ADE corner to hip hop, afro and latin: pick your style and you'll find your place. Many of these clubs are included with the Amsterdam Nightlife Ticket. Check our guides to the best techno clubs, hip hop clubs, afro clubs and latin clubs for the full lists.

Cover charges range from €5 to €25+, especially on weekends and around holidays. Cocktails quickly cost €12-15. Expect an evening of €50-80 if you visit multiple clubs. With an Amsterdam Nightlife Ticket you get access to 30+ clubs and venues, multiple days and extras for €10.

Thursday is student night with smaller crowds. Friday and Saturday are the main nights. On Sundays, a number of clubs close the week in style with latin and afro nights.

The dress code everywhere is smart casual to chic; sneakers won't get you into most big clubs. Arrive on time or buy your tickets online in advance, don't buy drinks on the street and don't rely on cash alone — most clubs are card-only.
