When you say Heaven 17, you say synthpop, but also The Human League. Ian Marsh and Martyn Ware once formed the basis of the latter band, but left in 1980 to start their own.

The plan was to make high-quality productions as The British Electric Foundation, with the synthesiser as a basis and working with Sandie Shaw, Tina Turner and even the now controversial Gary Glitter. They also made their own music as Heaven 17: a name they got from the novel A Clockwork Orange.

Their debut single (We don't need this) Fascist Groove Thang - with singer Glenn Gregory - from 1981 was rejected by the BBC, but with Temptation (1983) they still scored a big hit and that would not be the last.
The band broke up in 1988 and reunited in 1996. Remarkably, the first live performances were only made the following year: the band was previously purely a studio project. In 2021, the first two Human League albums, Reproduction from 1979 and Travelogue from 1980, were played in their entirety by Heaven 17.

Marsh left the band in 2007, but Ware and Gregory continue to perform under the name Heaven 17. On Saturday, September 13, they'll be setting up their synths at Q-Factory.
